Getting old sucks. True. It is a battle. What you need is a battle plan. Plan out your strategy over a 20-30 year period, say from October 2025 to January 31, 2055. Set goals, plan for contingencies & setbacks, have a band playing martial music in the background, have a Corpsman at the ready to bind your wounds and keep you in the battle. Rest is rust. Rust is a prelude to the final rest. Keep moving. Not to worry, Ol' NFO, the airlift is coming...I can hear the engines. Be well.
What Tom said. CBD products are a game changer. Pair that with topical DMSO, oral vitamin C, and plenty of Magnesium (the bio-available types, not “oxide”), and you have a cocktail for success. Have you thought about trying one of those inversion tables to decompress your spine? I’ve found those very helpful, and somebody is always selling one on Craigslist or FB Marketplace for cheap. You just need a place like a spare room to set it up.
It may seem odd to many; I never was in the Military. After a stint in Higher Edumication (at a time when wokism was at a minimum, you had to work for grades and learn), I went to work in the Environmental Remediation industry as a Safety/Engineering Tech. It was OK work; long hours, ok pay, lots of time away from home, put up with bullshit, and saw CONUS from the Pacific to the Atlantic, Canada to Mexico. Also had to learn to accept responsibility and accountability for what I did. Working to pay the education bill (I dont like debt, either sort of helped with that accountability and responsibility thing.)
Most of my family was Army, some Air Force and one or 2 Navy. I ain't much for salt water or high temperature, sandy places. Mountains, cold & snow and pine woods suit me just fine.
Retired from Active Duty too. 1991. But if called up, I'd go. I miss the camaraderie, the sense of mission, the Bridge and CIC watches, the pitch & roll and ship's noises lulling me to sleep...for two frigging hours before I am woken up to do this and that. 5-6 hours of sleep a day for most of the deployment. Nah, never mind. I am taking the phone (landline) off the hook if I sense a call-up coming. I was a used up burnout after 26 years. How could I forget?

So sorry. I know all about back spasms and how they can put you down. I wish you the best and will toss an extra prayer in there for you.
I like a heating pad under my back at times like this.

I tell people that I don’t mind getting older, but aging sucks.
That really sucks! Try CBD, it worked for me.
Gah! What about the quarterly or random Pee Tests? Nope. I wanna be ready in case I get called up.
I have retired from Active Duty. Any further action (like sealing my driveway apron like I just finished) is now Voluntary.
Also, periodically I experience back spasms; unfortunately, life doesn't give a obese rodent's rear end, stuff still needs to get done!

What branch, Tom?
