I think the current mentality in America is closer to what it was 250 years ago than 50 years ago. We're as splintered now as it was with Rebels and Loyalists raiding back and forth in New York and New Jersey in the 1770s. We just haven't flipped the switch, yet.
And for that "yet," I'm truly grateful because guerrilla/partisan warfare is an ugly thing, no matter how necessary it may be. 😔

Our ancestors spent decades complaining to the crown about their persecution. Once things finally kicked off, it still took another year for the colonies to declare, "We've finally had enough of this sh**!" And even then, most of the people in the colonies didn't join. I don't think we're nearly as divided now as we were then. But those that are hyper-online make for very loud voices, and don't represent the true feelings of those that aren't nearly as invested in social media narratives.
The loud voices make others afraid to speak their mind. This past week, my dental hygienist told me she was worried about complaints if she wore her red, white, and blue hygienist uniform pieces or had a flag wreath on her room door. The heckler's veto in action. *cussing quietly as I type* I told her to stand up and speak her mind because she didn't need the heckler's money. I know I don't. *shrug*
I was stationed on a Frigate in Pearl Harbor when we celebrated America's 200th anniversary. A dozen or so of the ship's Chief's Mess got together for a BBQ in Ewa Beach. My newly arrived Asian wife was kind of stunned at the celebration. The fireworks went on seemingly forever. We roasted a pig, had iced down tubs of Pearl beer. We were White, Black, Filipino, Thai, Japanese, Okinawan and as American as the Red, White & Blue. I wish I had a cannon! And lots of cannon grade black powder. I'd volunteer it for a party at the Gun Club, we'd burn all that powder in volleys for sure! Smoke so thick you can't see. Black powder, the real stuff, has a wonderful smell.....

Dale, we Rural New York residents have a heritage over 250 years old. Hard working, God fearing, visionary Americans. I just finished reading of the campaign by General Sullivan to ensure that the British Army, Loyalists and their Native American allies would not interfere with the Continental Army or its mission. They were successful.
It was brutal, no quarter given nor asked total, scorched earth war. The kind that scars the consciousness of human beings. Both sides suffered; the Americans lost humanity, the Native Americans were forever decimated.
My question; Is that what you want to awaken with your mandated seizure of our land for your "Green Energy", your disarmament of us, your destruction of our culture, your confiscation by taxes, your forced introduction of immigrants who wont assimilate to American culture, etc.? We are. Then time for pulling back is slipping away.
I've never been much into genealogy but just a few years ago one of my cousins sent me a missive that showed that I have two ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War. Just last month I visited one of their graves in Byrdtown, TN.

I agree. I think the barnacles on our hull, so to speak have made themselves very evident, but also easier to scrape.
