Right about now, my ancestors are sitting up in their graves and nodding, "This is why we risked all to emigrate to America, Matt. Petty tyrants are still ruining the citizens' lives for the thrill they get from the exercise of power." I'm praying for the Europeans, but that ball is sitting squarely in their court right now, and they need to get in the game for the first times in their lives, IMHO. They need to look at what is necessary to throw out the tyranny afflicting them as they've done throughout European history. Remember Tours, the gates of Vienna, and how their ancestors fought every invasion and local seizure of power. The Defenestration of Prague may need to be repeated and made larger before long. 💪 🪟 "Where is the nearest dung pile?"
Pick your poison. Last time I was in Europe was June 1991, Marseille, France. The no-go zones (Banlieues) were real. The crowds of young Algerian men in shiny pants and disco shirts shouting cat-calls at women in public places with impunity was real. Their sneering faces were real. It was a far cry from the Europe I visited in the 60's.
Back in ‘93 one of the guys in my platoon was stabbed at a German nightclub by a “Turk”, which was the German’s slang term at the time for the Islamic immigrants, illegal or not. Nothing ever came of the investigation. This has been the case for many decades.
I still say Europe and The EU will “press gang” the fighting age male migrant community to fight in the Ukraine…. There really isn’t another reason to keep all of them around.
But the "importing" started before the Ukraine mess, in fact enough time for it to be generational embedment. That's suggestive of a more long-term goal.
While the EU may be a lost cause (particularly Western Europe), I suspect there will be a rather brutal and bloody backlash before they go under. On a side note, I'm thinking it's going to be a very bad time to be an American expatriate living in Europe ("And the rock cried out, 'No hiding place!'...")

Agreed, and I think folks are 'rethinking' their status.
I believe this is what alcoholics refer to as "a moment of clarity."
