like you said, it should be easy to figure out if it's WWII era, I'm sure the construction workers did nazi that coming. Large amounts of money say that this ends up "belonging to the state"
As long as that gold was buried it was safe. Now that it is safely in the hands of the government all they have to worry about is shrinkage as they work diligently to find the rightful owner.
Though the cynic in me thinks the best the workers are going to get is a "great find! good job!" as the government waltzes away with every dime of it without even giving a finder's fee.
The best we can hope for is the numbers on the bars trace back to a different European country and the whole amount gets locked away for years as they sue each other over who gets to keep it....
