The Grandmaster's Crypt
Segment Four
“Cornered? Who…” A flood of images of knights, centurions, Phoenicians, and priests came to him, all of them seeming to be closing in on the Hypogeum from everywhere. The Phoenician carrying his head was dancing in front of a man, and Aiden realized it was Rudolpho. He chuckled at that, then thought. Where does this passage come out?
“It comes out in the lower chambers. From that side it appears to be a blind trilithon, but it is not. We are almost there. There is light. You can open your eyes now.”
Aiden blinked and realized he could dimly see the outline of the passage they were in. “How…did you navigate the passages?”
“The painted signs. They tell the ways.” They stepped out into the lower cavern, and Aiden looked up the stairs. He started up, and just as he got to the level where he could see, the Black Knight said, “Wait. The Phoenician has one enthralled.” Aiden raised up enough to see there were four men clustered around a stack of plunder in the middle of the room, with a man with blood on his head, and a woman sitting on the floor to the right of the door. One man stood in the door, apparently looking out. He only saw two pistols being held by the two men closest to the prisoners.
