one good conduct, then was demoted from E-5 to O-1 18 months later.

Collard greens, never my favorite, have been on the verboten list since I was started on a blood thinner, even if not Coumadin, for my heart problems.

Grits with real butter are ok, but like farina, lack much flavor unless sweet spiced.

4 Good Conduct's here. Was I twice as Good as you were, or twice as lucky? But thank God for that old "Work hard, play hard" ethos back in the 60s and 70s, huh?

Grits are good as a side or as a stand alone. To think otherwise is Un-American. My favorite is grits 'n real butter & eggs, side of sausage.

It looks worth at least a taste...

You seem uncertain, Tom. Please be careful, these are dangerous times.

Here in WNY, we have some regional foods as well. Grits and greens were not part of my diet.

I hope you had the opportunity to savor smoked ham fried in real maple syrup. Nothing works as well as made from scratch New England style clam chowder to warm you up on a cold winter day. Along with fresh, hot bread smeared with butter...

Just got back from squirrel hunting, now, I'm hungry...

Don't have the time to do it right, but adding onions sauteed with 3 thick slices of bacon, chopped, and a small can of baby clams to a can of Progresso NECC does a nice job on some of those days.

Yes, it does. Any canned NECC.
