I remember the Japanese trial of the marines and sailors for raping the pre-teen girl in Okinawa during Slick Willy's time in office. His pleas for clemency were disgusting and set a rotten trend, IMHO. Make the individual members responsible. If you ask peers to report, it will be weaponized with false allegations.

And one could look at Korea for intrusive leadership with squadron commanders sent to patrol the off base bars on weekend evenings.

Good points! I was over there in 2014 when Kadena went on 'lockdown' and it was a constant battle with the base and air police since we were operating 24/7 and half the crews were off base, plus dealing with the ships out of Naha harbor.

Okinawa is a powder keg. The local folks worried about the Ospreys falling out of the sky on their buildings, our military acting like animals because they're out from under American culture (modern Japanese culture is pretty messed up in regards to sexualizing children, IMHO), and our folks being stuck on that small island and unable to meet young women, who aren't desperate bar girls seeking a ticket out of Japan. 😔 Beautiful island, but just to much in one spot. Like the other Japanese-controlled islands.

Intrusive leadership led to the mutiny on the Bounty.

To get the kids ro stop doing stupid stuff, you'd have to instruct them on moral behavior and actual virtues above the level of Pragmatic Utilitarianism (what DoD actually runs on) and above nebulous "professionalism."

Yes, this is a problem, and teaching the kids not to be stupid is an ever changing target. God is always building better idiots.
