My Uncle Paul was a junior Naval Officer who was involved in the Manhattan Project doing scut work. He later had a career at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory doing "bomb work". Pretty sure many of the commies in that line of work got purged after the Russians detonated their own nuclear bomb in 1949, thanks in part to Julius & Ethel Rosenberg. McCarthy did the heavy janitorial work in the early 50's.
