This has definitely been a wet summer. We get thunderstorms through here about once or twice a week now, NONE of which are predicted by the weather service until they're actually happening. So it's been hot and muggy here for weeks now. Makes me wonder what August will be like this year.
we have had daily thunderstorms for weeks now. It reminds me of the weather here 50 years ago when I was a kid and we had afternoon showers most days of the summer.
It's been hovering off the coast to our south for several days now. We get t-storms at least once a day and windy moments, which the four-legged toddlers intensely dislike. My wife and I are hunkered down right now, waiting.
In a prior stage of my life, I spent almost 20 years in Louisiana following Hurricane tracks, I have a small side bet that Bertha will hit the Heat Dome over South Texas and stall over Galveston .... then grind away for 48 hours sucking moisture in to dump over the Texas Gulf Coast and as far inland as San Antonio.
Here in the far western Florida Panhandle we've been watching this storm with interest. So far, it's just thunderstroms and wind gusts, The wind has cleared out most of the dead tree branches, the tender new branches and a lot of the mistletoe. The rains have greened things up. Hurricanes and tropical storms are a thing here. We are supposed to get a major hurricane once every 75 years, so they say. I think we've had 7 since we moved here in 1986. That includes near misses. Fortunately the kids and I planted a privacy hedge around our 4 acres and volunteer trees have come up to provide a wonderful wind break for hurricane winds, most of which come from the southeast. But just last Monday we got a notification that the power company is coming through in a week or so to "trim" (remove) trees along our eastern property line that are impinging on the power lines. That'll include most of our trees that have been protecting our house for decades. We have never lost a single roof shingle because that wind break shields us from the prevailing winds. Adios to that. :(
