There are good people out there. I see them all the time. I think it's important to help grow them, or at least bring out that inner goodness that is within most of us. Try to do it by smiling a retail sales staff, waitresses, counter people at fast foods, people out there who wait on you and have to struggle with good folks and not so good folks. Thank them, be civil, polite, pay them a compliment if merited. That comes naturally to most of us, I know, but going the extra mile to brighten someone's day pays dividends in maintaining our civilization. This is kind of an adjunct to mentoring. I was on the receiving end of it when I first started out on my own. It made a huge difference.
