You said it so I didn't have to. There's plenty of incompetence on display there, but I'm pretty sure malice has more to do with these events. It's a pattern at this point.
Many people in government know with absolute certainty what is the best way to spend tax dollars. Who wants wasteful spending for frivolous O/T when kids are going hungry, undocumented immigrants are unhoused and the Russians are brutalizing our most strategically important ally east of Continental Europe? 8 hours of O/T = 1 month of Obamaphone service.
This is what happens when "woke" replaces industry knowledge. A damned idiot makes a stupid judgement call and everybody loses. That's why fire chiefs are usually firefighters who came up through the ranks, not lesbian woke assholes. The people who lost their homes, and the families of those who lost their lives, should sue LA into bankruptcy.
I know Southern California is a paradise, but I can't believe that anyone is really stupid enough to live there with the wokesters, the poop on the streets, the high taxes, and Gavin Newscum.
The former prosecutor in me is cringing as the former defense attorney is jumping with joy, as I suspect whoever is representing Jonathan Rinderknecht is.
On the one hand, you have criminal liability for all the foreseeable results of your criminal acts. If the defense can show that the government considered the criminal act resolved, then anything happening after that can't be laid on the defendant.
I read that as LAFD officially saying that the fire was out. Doing time for a brush fire is a whole different animal than doing time for a fire that did billions in damage and involved fatalities. LAFD's actions (or inactions) appear to be why the major event occurred.
Any decent defense attorney knows the state doesn't want that discussion to come out in court.
Wonder if this will be the last example of incompetence leading up to the palisade fires. Home owners need a good tort lawyer and punish the incompetence at all levels.
That's because the governor WANTED it to burn. It's Hawaii all over again.

intended consequences.
Why didn't the fire chief go out and check themselves? Because they didn't know anything about fires, and they didn't want to know.
Or THEY were ordered not to. I know the head of the Fire Department is a DEI hire and has no real experience.
As a Retired Safety Professional, I'm not surprised by this.
When you count nickels at a critical incident, it costs millions.
